Time To Wash Those Raw Hair Extensions

How do i wash my raw hair?

It must be done...so why not do it right!  So get prepared.  Get your favorite drink 🍷.  Turn on your favorite music 🎶 and groove into this process.  At Straight From The Scalp, our Raw hair extensions will last you upward of 3-5 years...yes YEARS, BUT with proper maintenance and some tender loving care!

Let's get into it!

Steps 1...BRUSH

You must completely brush out your extensions prior to washing.  This will allow room to remove any kinks, loose hair, and product build-up.  Be gentle with this process!!!  Make sure you hold your bundles at the weft to avoid pulling out any hair.  And wig wearers...NEVER HOLD THE WIG BY THE LACE when combing out the hair.  Make sure to hold at a firm foundation,. which would be the wig cap.  Lace closures are expensive and you don't want to comprise that lace!

STEP 2...WATER

Well, this is a no-brainer...of course water is needed.  Make sure when washing your extensions, use cold to lukewarm water.  Of course the warmer the water, the more it will soften any product build-up and remove dirt...BUT...we need to remember, these extensions are connected to a follicle, so we must make sure we deposit in, what we are taking out during the shampooing process.

STEP 3...CO-WASH

Your extensions ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ LOVE moisture!!!  They live for that creamy feeling when the conditioning nutrients are deposited into the hair shaft.  As we stated earlier, the hair isn't connected to a follicle anymore, so we have to deposit into the hair shaft, what the follicle would have provided.

You can work with your favorite conditioner or a "shampoo conditioner".  At Straight From The Scalp, we love "As I Am" Conditioning Wash.

Co-washing is pretty simple and it is the same process you would do if you were shampooing the hair, but instead, your are using conditioner.

STEP 4...RINSE..RINSE...one more time...RINSE!

We need to remove all the contents of the conditioner from the strands.  Sometimes leaving the conditioner in the hair results in clean, but "crunchy" hair, and unless we are eating snacks...we don't want no crunch!!!  LOL!

Make sure to use cool-warm water and run your fingers through the strands to remove the conditioner from the hair.  Our goal here is to ensure the hair remains soft, but all the product is removed.  We don't want anything to prevent us from achieving that great body, bounce, luster, and volume!

STEP 5...JUST WAIT!

Don't rush the drying process.  Have some patience during this step.  Allowing the hair to air dry will produce the most beautiful patterns the textures are able to provide.  It is at the completion of the air drying process, you can truly appreciate your investment, especially if you have purchased from our Luxury Collection of extensions.  You are able to see the curls pop...the natural wave...wave and the straight doing its thang as well!

FINAL STEP...OIL

Now, not all of our Raw hair extensions require oil.  Our Burmese, Caicos Curly doesn't require any oil at all.

Just water, conditioner and air dry, and you are good to go.

Our Cambodian hair on the other hand will require a lite oil application.  So don't be afraid to apply, but don't use too much cause that will weigh the hair down.

Now, Miss Lady, you are ready to go.  If you are reusing bundles, they should look and feel as good as new.  If you are wearing a wig, it is now time to style and apply.

Hope you enjoyed this great read.  We look forward to you becoming a part of the family!
